We are a Canadian branch of Suiken Martial Arts Association located in Toronto, Ontario, and we teach traditional Okinawa Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo as taught in the Suiken Bugei Kai . We are also associated with the Russian Canadian Educational and Recreational Centre; however, our training sessions have been taking place at Antibes Community Centre since September 2007. Although we train in traditional Okinawan karate and kobudo, our students also participate in sport karate tournaments if they so desire. During the past academic year (Sep 2008 – Jun 2009) the students of our branch have tested and achieved the grades of 10 kyu to 4 kyu, and some plan to begin participating in local martial arts tournaments this academic year.
We are open to all individuals, males and females, 5 years old and up; interested in traditional Okinawa Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo. There are 3 programs: kids (5-7 years), youth (8-12 years) and adults (+ 13 years). Our kids program concentrates on improving their health, establishing discipline, and increasing their confidence in themselves while still having fun. We incorporate martial arts games in the curriculum to make training more enjoyable for them as well. Our youth program focuses on traditional karate training with a light mixture of sporting aspects of the art, and our adults program is completely based on traditional methods of training. Each program has 2 training sessions per week.
