Some claim that the version of this kata practiced most often in Shuri-te styles was created by Bushi Matsumura. Supposedly, it contains what Kusanku taught to Sakugawa. It is known that Sakugawa and Yara both taught a Kusanku kata. Some claim that Matsumura made his own version from what he learned from Yara and Sakugawa. The Matsumura Seito version comes closer to Matsumura's personal version than any other.
